## Verdict

On a Pixel 8a or newer, open Settings > Battery > Battery health. On a Galaxy, run Battery status in the Samsung Members app. Android has no single battery health screen for every brand.

Apple puts one battery health number in one place. Android doesn't. What you see depends on who made your phone and how new it is. Here's where to look on the two big ones, and what the results mean.

If you're in a hurry: on a Pixel 8a or newer, go to **Settings > Battery > Battery health**. On a Samsung Galaxy, open the **Samsung Members** app and run the **Battery status** diagnostic. Everything else below is detail.

Menus move between software releases, and the sources here don't name specific Android or One UI versions. If a path doesn't match your screen, use the search box in **Settings**.

## Check battery health on a Google Pixel

### Open the Battery health page

1. Open **Settings**.
2. Tap **Battery**, then **Battery health**.
3. Read the status: **Normal**, **Reduced** or **Unavailable**.

For an estimated capacity figure, tap **Battery capacity** on that same page. 9to5Google's coverage of Android 16 describes this as an estimate of how much charge the battery can hold compared with a new one.

### Know which Pixels show a status

Google's support page says battery health status works on **Pixel 8a and later**, and not on the Pixel Tablet. The Pixel 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, 8 and 8 Pro don't show a status. 9to5Google reports that the Battery health menu itself appeared on Pixel 6 and newer with Android 16, so on those phones you may see the page but no capacity reading.

### Read the result

| Status | What Google says it means |
| --- | --- |
| Normal | Capacity is within normal limits |
| Reduced | Capacity is below 80%; consider a battery replacement |
| Unavailable | The phone can't determine battery status |

### Find the charge cycle count

On Pixel 8a and later, Google says to open **Settings > About phone > Battery information**. That screen also shows the battery's manufacture date and the date of first use.

### When to replace a Pixel battery

Google's guidance: replace at under 80% capacity or at about 800 cycles on the Pixel 3 through Pixel 8 Pro and the Pixel Fold. On Pixel 8a and later, it's under 80% or about 1,000 cycles. Replacement options are listed on Google's Pixel support site.

**Keep in mind:** Pixel 6a owners have a special case. Google's page says the Pixel 6a battery program ended on July 8, 2026, so those support options are no longer available.

### Battery health assistance

Google also has a feature called battery health assistance. 9to5Google says it gradually lowers the battery's maximum voltage between 200 and 1,000 charge cycles and adjusts charging to match, so you may notice slightly different charging behaviour and battery life as the battery ages. Google's page lists it for Pixel 6a through Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and says it's on by default and can't be turned off on the Pixel 9a.

## Check battery health on a Samsung Galaxy

Samsung's own support page points to one route, and it isn't in the main Settings app.

### Run the Battery status diagnostic

1. Open the **Samsung Members** app.
2. Go to the **Support** tab.
3. Tap **Get Started** under **Phone diagnostics**.
4. When the diagnostic finishes, tap **Battery status**.

### Read the result

| Result | What Samsung says it means |
| --- | --- |
| Normal | No battery performance issues |
| Weak | Efficiency may have dropped from long-term use or conditions |
| Bad | Battery life has significantly degraded; visit a Samsung Support Center |

**Keep in mind:** Samsung's page gives no percentage and doesn't list which models or One UI versions support the test. Some third-party guides claim a health percentage and cycle count under Settings on recent Galaxy phones, but we couldn't confirm that in Samsung's own documentation, so we're not giving you a path for it. Samsung says menu names and layouts vary by device, software and app version.

## Other brands

Xiaomi, OnePlus, Motorola and the rest each do their own thing, and we haven't verified their steps. Your maker's support site is the safe place to look. Be wary of dial codes and random apps promising an exact number. They're not an official measurement.

## Is your battery the problem, or your settings?

If your phone dies early but the health check says Normal, look at settings and apps first. If it says Reduced or Weak, settings won't fix a worn battery. iPhone owners can use [our iPhone battery settings guide](/posts/iphone-settings-to-save-battery) for the equivalent Apple steps.

## The bottom line

Pixel owners with a recent phone get a clear answer in a few taps. Galaxy owners get a rougher Normal, Weak or Bad verdict from Samsung Members. If your phone says it's worn, replacing the battery is the next step. Repair prices vary by model and region, so check your maker's repair page.
